First Fold Records & Marclar present… BRING OUT YOUR DEAD II

Juneau Brothers / Papa November / Them Use Them / Deep Grass / Posh One

Back again to fill your eyes and ears with spectacular sights and sounds, with a little help from our friends down at First Fold records. Taking experimental audio and visual to a new level, by combining electronic and experimental techniques with unique video projections and distinctive performance…

This time the night, at the intimate Bulls Head in Birmingham suburb Moseley Village, is curated by first fold as part of their ‘Bring Out Your Dead’ (or ‘BOYD’) series of live events. ‘Bring Out Your Dead’ (or ‘BOYD’) is built upon the commitment of the artists involved to producing innovative audio/visual experiences and to the promotion of each other’s work. first fold is an independent record label specialising in electronic and experimental music: it’s focus is to maintain a self-regulating and enthusiastic approach to the creation of music and visual media and it aims to encourage a dialogue between the people involved that constantly challenges them to generate increasingly exciting and relevant work.

This Month’s acts are….

JUNEAU BROTHERS – music project by Ben Sadler, Phil Duckworth and Joseph Welden. The music of late has talked about the demise of public sculpture, pottery glazes, multifarious wildlife and being bored with the city. Juneau Brothers play with customised instruments; modified nike trainers to axes with mini computers attached and both live percussion and vocal layers- all fed through a network of glitch-patch programming and set alive by lurid and broken visuals. Juneau Brothers play to all audiences.

PAPA NOVEMBER – audio project started by Stuart Tonge. Inspired by an ever increasing vinyl collection and the sonic possibilities presented by a Mac computer Stuart succumbed to the desire to create his own language in sound… well, at least an awkward version of those old breakbeat tracks.

THEM USE THEM – solo project of Birmingham based artist and musician Ben Sadler. Initial songs were made on a cheap 1980’s Yamaha keyboard; when the keyboard’s power adaptor stopped working Sadler revived his father’s acoustic guitar, saved up for a laptop and began mining a sliver-like seam of gentle melancholy and woe.

DEEP GRASS – “4.00pm, and stopping at a layby next to a dried-up riverbed after a long drive through afternoon heat you reach for your mobile phone.  No signal.  Stepping outside the car you walk to a solitary payphone, lift the receiver and drop in your coins.  You dial your number, it rings and your call is answered.  What you hear…is the sound of Deep Grass.”

POSH ONE – Local Artist | DJ | Promoter Posh One brings the newest sounds from the world of downtempo and chillout. He regularly hosts Events and Projects around Birmingham and forming various nights. He has recently been building up his Club Night Happy Cycling (formerly known as Apt) At The Bulls Head every Thursday. To hear more of Posh One’s mixes visit and don’t forget to check out his website!

The night will be £3 entry for all, with super cheap drink deals – £2 cans, £2 double dark rum, £2 double vodka, £8 house wine… So really there’s no excuse not to come!
