Freestyle & Birmingham Promoters present live music and DJs with a distinctly continental feel this week as Frutaloka, Johnny Kowalski & The Sexy Weirdos and Julianne Bastock take to the stage, with DJ support courtesy of Jibbering’s Tangawizi and Freestyle regular Beatroot.
Frutaloka are a collective of musicians from a variety of cultural and musical backgrounds whose unique blend of world music – taking in Latin, funk, soul, reggae and more – never fails to invigorate the audience with uplifting, ultra-positive energy.
Frutaloka – Passion Fruit (Live at The Yardbird)
Johnny Kowalski & The Sexy Weirdos meanwhile cite the likes of Gogol Bordello, Madness, Tom Waits, Taraf De Haidouks and Rebirth Brass Band as influences and have gigs at pubs, animal sanctuaries, burlesque nights and Birmingham’s very own Balkanic Eruption to their name, having formed in early 2010 following a fight in a music shop.

Julianne Bastock completes the live bill, her haunting, serene vocals taking you on an eclectic journey from edgy folk rock to the simply beautiful. Lose yourself for a moment as she performs her heady mix of emotive tunes.
Expect funk, hip hop, afrobeat, Latin, reggae, soul and jazz as Tangawizi and Beatroot mix it up on the ones and twos, with Soul Rebel keeping the downstairs bar in check.
Bull’s Head, Moseley, 7.30pm-2am
